Commentary
And when there are among the people those who commit corruption, if they are forbidden from it, they cease. He clarified that this is not the case for the most stubborn of them. He said, announcing with an instrument of affirmation that there still remains among the people one who enjoins what is good and forbids what is wrong: "And when it is said to him" from any speaker, "Fear Allah," meaning the Greatest King, to whom all things are under His power, and leave what you are upon of corruption. "It takes hold of him," meaning it overcomes him due to his possessing the quality of pride. "The might" in his self, due to what is in it of arrogance and disdain for the command of Allah. And it is not the nature of creation to be characterized by that, for indeed, might belongs to Allah entirely. "With sin," meaning accompanied by sin, which is the despicable, lowly act that is not permissible and necessitates punishment by belittling others and being arrogant towards them.
And when this vile matter is always paving the way for his soul to gain what it desires, it caused him to say: "So sufficient for him" meaning his sufficiency is "Hell," which will be a resting place for him just as he has paved the way for corruption. The specification of this name indicates the grimness in facing, meaning confronting with an unpleasant face what has occurred from him in confronting the one who commanded him from among his like.
Al-Harali said: For the meaning that is specific to judgment, Allah, the Exalted, names the Fire with one of its names - this has ended.
"And how evil is the resting place." It is the resting place of calmness and comfort, from what is spread out and walked upon - this was said by Al-Harali. He also said: It indicates Allah's delaying for this nation, taking care of its Prophet, so He considers its wicked and disbelieving ones with the punishment of the Hereafter. And if He were to hasten the punishment of its believers in this world, He would save the disbeliever in this world and the believer in the Hereafter, and He informed of the long duration and eternity in it.
