And when he mentioned that he is the most obstinate, he began to mention the aspect of his obstinacy. He said, emphasizing what he means by saying: So when he confronts you, he strives to show that he is a reformer, or it could be a present participle phrase. "And when he turns away" means he turns away in his heart or he said it about someone who deceived him with his words. He alluded to the expression of striving for hastening the occurrence of corruption with utmost effort. He said: "He strives" and he pointed out the abundance of his corruption by saying: "in the earth," meaning all of it, through his actions and words among those who agree with him. "To cause corruption" means to bring about corruption, which is a term for all sins. "In it" means in the earth, in the essence of the matter, for the purpose of destruction. And people are the quickest to it, so they become partners with him in acts of corruption. When he does what he intends, it becomes well-known among them, and he has helpers in it. He clarified that he reaches his goal of corruption by saying, naming the cultivated land as cultivation, exaggerating: "And he destroys the cultivation," meaning the cultivated land by which the animals live. Al-Harali said he named it cultivation because it is attributed to creation, and he did not call it planting because that is attributed to the truth. And because when the cause perishes, the effect perishes without reversal. "And the offspring" means the offspring by which the species of the animal survives. Al-Harali said: It is the extraction of the essence of the thing from its entirety. And his action of that is for corruption, and the verse is structured this way to convey that the meaning is that his goal, first, in corrupting the essence of the matter is to reach destruction, and secondly, in destruction is to reach corruption. "And Allah" means, while the situation is that the greatest King "does not love corruption," meaning He does not act in it as one who loves it, so He does not command it but rather forbids it and does not approve of it but changes it, even if it takes a long time, and He punishes for it. And it was not said: destruction, because it may only be a form, and it may be righteousness, as in the case of retribution. And it was not said: corruption includes what if the corruption occurs unintentionally. And the verse is from the interlocking structure; it first mentioned corruption to indicate its omission second, and secondly mentioned destruction to indicate its omission first. And it mentioned the cultivation, which is the cause, as a sign of the offspring, and the offspring, which is the effect, as a sign of planting; thus, it is a second interlocking.
