And when these were upon the path of the messengers, because they worshipped Allah first, as indicated by the context, their souls were humbled. Then they mentioned Him at those three ranks, and their hearts were illuminated by the manifestation of the light of His majesty, glorified and exalted is He. They thus became qualified for supplication, and their supplication was complete, as the friend, blessings and peace be upon him, did when he said: "The One who created me, and He guides me" [Ash-Shu'ara: 78] until he said: "My Lord, grant me wisdom and join me with the righteous" [Ash-Shu'ara: 83]. He placed the mention before the supplication, and as the end of the family of Imran was guided in His saying: "Our Lord, indeed we have heard a caller calling to faith, saying, 'Believe in your Lord,' so we believed. Our Lord, forgive us" [Aal 'Imran: 193]. And therein is encouragement that He does not forget a deed, and a warning that no falsehood can prevail against Him, nor can any persistent one resist Him.
