And when these were upon the path of the messengers, because they worshipped Allah first, as indicated by the context, their souls were humbled. Then they mentioned Him at those three ranks, and their hearts were illuminated by the manifestation of the light of His majesty, glorified and exalted is He. They thus became qualified for supplication, and their supplication was complete, as the friend, blessings and peace be upon him, did when he said: "The One who created me, and He guides me" [Ash-Shu'ara: 78] until he said: "My Lord, grant me wisdom and join me with the righteous" [Ash-Shu'ara: 83]. He placed the mention before the supplication, and as the end of the family of Imran was guided in His saying: "Our Lord, indeed we have heard a caller calling to faith, saying, 'Believe in your Lord,' so we believed. Our Lord, forgive us" [Aal 'Imran: 193]. They prioritized obedience, which elevated their status by His saying in the manner of initiation, gathering upon a meaning of glad tidings of the abundance of the saved in this nation, or the gathering may be for the greatness of their attributes: "Those" meaning the high in ranks, the great in demands, "for them" meaning this portion only, because the first informed that the matter is upon it, not for him.

And when most of the actions of the servants are not upon correctness, and the least of them is to be free of a good intention, he indicated to that by saying: "A share" which is a name for the portion that has been allocated among a group, being "of what" if he had said: they sought - for example, it would not encompass all their actions; and if he had said: they did, it would have been assumed that the saying was limited, so he turned to his saying: "They earned" meaning they sought and attained and acted diligently in it, and they gathered from the essence of their verbal and practical deeds, and among them is the belief which they were sincere in, for it is what they will be rewarded for, and it is few in comparison to the rest of their deeds.

And when the fastest of people in accounting is the most knowledgeable of them in its arts, right and wrong, and the estimation is: Allah is All-Knowing of their hidden and manifest deeds and the distinction of their good from their bad, so He will reward them accordingly. He then added to it His saying: "And Allah" meaning the One who encompasses knowledge and power, "is swift in accounting" which means He has enumerated the deeds and clarified what each of them deserves in terms of recompense and its connection to the doer, due to His vast knowledge and comprehensive power. It was said to some of them: How will Allah account the creation at one time? He said: Just as He provides for them at one time. And therein is encouragement that He does not forget a deed, and a warning that no falsehood can prevail against Him, nor can any persistent one resist Him.
