Commentary

And when what they were upon of opposition in standing was made ugly to them in relation to misguidance in the general nominal form, confirmed by various types of emphasis, and what had passed from the mention of the influx was not decisive in obligation, He indicated to them to glorify what He had guided them to of agreement by means of the tool of delay. He said, adding to what you estimate: 'So do not pour forth from the sacred place the influx that you were opposing the people in,' indicating the difference between the two influxes and the distance between them in a way that is known by obligation: 'Then,' meaning after a long time of your being engaged in misguidance, I revealed to you in this wise mention (p-153) which you rejected, and it is your honor and your dignity, not what you thought was an honor for you by boasting over the people by opposing guidance in standing at Muzdalifah and pouring forth from it. 'Pour forth,' meaning when you have completed the standing.

And He made the noble name apparent as a clarification of the station and as a notification that He is described by that which He describes Himself with in general terms, without regard to any limitation or condition. He said: ﴿Indeed, Allah﴾, the Possessor of perfection, ﴿is Forgiving﴾, meaning He conceals the sins of whoever seeks His forgiveness. ﴿And Merciful﴾, meaning He is abundant in mercy. He includes the one who seeks forgiveness among the group of the merciful, from whom no sin appears. So He acts towards them with the honor of the merciful towards the one who is shown mercy, so that the repentant from sin is like one who has no sin.
