And when the Most High permitted fighting in every place, even in the Sacred Sanctuary, and their action during the sacred months was very severe to them, the determination arose to inquire about it. He said, teaching them what they should do in the Umrah of the Qada, if they needed it in a general manner: "The sacred month" is Dhul-Qi'dah of the year seven. If you fight them therein because they fought you in a sacred month, "in the sacred month" in which they fought you, which is Dhul-Qi'dah of the year six, when they prevented you from the Umrah of Hudaybiyyah.
And when he indicated what had passed regarding retaliation, he expressed it in a more general manner and said: "And the sacred things" meaning all of them, and it is the plural of hurmah, which is what is preserved and safeguarded and not violated. "Retaliation" means following for equality and resemblance. "So whoever" means whoever caused this, that he is "the one who transgressed against you" meaning he intentionally harmed you in something from the things, at any time or place. "Then transgress against him" meaning exceed him. It is called transgression in similarity to strengthen their resolve and to settle their determination, meaning do it even if the obstinate one calls it something other than what is right for him. "With that which he transgressed" meaning his transgression "against you" meaning with that which he transgressed against you with. And perhaps he repeated the condition even if the first one understood it to repel the obstinacy of one who might say: the words are inclusive of his transgression against me and against others, so I can respond to him with the highest of what has occurred to him from that, because the intended purpose is to deter him, even if this ruling is not returned to a condition that negates it.
And when he made resemblance a limit, and its matter was hidden, and stopping at it after the soul's release is difficult, he warned against exceeding it after permission in the retaliation which drew most of them by its designation as transgression in a way that invites to pardon for the one who understands. He said: "And fear Allah" meaning the One who encompasses knowledge of everything by being careful in retaliation so that you do not exceed. "And know" and he made it clear and did not conceal it so that it does not restrict with piety in the matter of transgression, for example, he said: "That Allah" meaning the One who has all the attributes of perfection is with you if you are cautious by being careful in it or by pardoning. For indeed Allah "is with the pious" and whoever Allah is with has succeeded in every success. "And Allah does not increase a servant by pardon except in honor."
Al-Harali said: So within it is an indication and a reference to the purpose of leniency, which is the best of virtues, from reconnecting with the severed and pardoning the oppressor. And when there is in this piety a departure from the desires of the self, He informed them that the Most High will be a compensation for them from their selves by what they are cautious of and continue in piety until it becomes a description for them. So He informed them of His companionship with them - it has ended.
