Commentary
And when it was known that this good which is mentioned is not limited to one who has insight, nor does it stop short of one who has the slightest ambition, indeed, he mentions Allah, glorified and exalted is He, to the Arabs as a favor from Him upon them after a long period of hardship and the persistence of ignorance, effort, and toil. He encouraged them towards that which sustains it, causing it to be a result of what has preceded. So He said: ﴿So remember Me﴾ meaning: for the sake of My blessings upon you with this and with others ﴿I will remember you﴾ and I will open for you from the knowledge and remove from you the fears that cannot be encompassed by a limit ﴿And be grateful to Me﴾ alone without any partner [that you associate with Me, I will increase you, and He confirmed this indication by saying] ﴿And do not be ungrateful to Me﴾ meaning: your way. Al-Harali said: And when the Arabs had an inclination towards the remembrance of their forefathers, their events, and their days, Allah, glorified and exalted is He, made His remembrance for them a compensation for what they used to remember, just as He made His Book a compensation for their poetry and the shaking of their mourning for that which pleases them through His remembrance for them. This has ended.
