So, it was answered as if he said: By what were they permitted? By His saying: ﴿Allah mocks at them﴾ meaning He will reward them for their actions by leading them on, by showing them from His matter what is disgraceful to them that they do not perceive its aspect. So, He executes upon them in this world the rulings of the people of faith and makes them taste in both abodes the utmost humiliation, renewing that for them according to their mockery. And that is more painful than something permanent to which the soul becomes accustomed. Therefore, He expressed it with the verbal form rather than the nominal form, although it indicates the validity of repentance for whoever repents without the nominal form.

﴿And He extends them﴾ from the extension with what confuses them. And al-Harali said: From the support, which is an additional continuous thing of its kind.

﴿In their transgression﴾ meaning their exceeding the limit in corruption. And al-Harali said: The excess of their transgression beyond the limits and measures of things, it has ended. And this extension by the granting for them while they are ﴿wandering﴾ meaning they are groping like one who has no insight at all. Al-Harali said: From the blindness, which is the confusion of matters that have indications that are beneficial when the sense is lost, so there remains for him no reason to turn him away from his transgression. They do not exceed a limit except that they are blinded and do not turn back from it. They are always increasing in transgression. It has ended.
