(p-114) And when He clarified their hypocrisy and its cause, and their behavior when called by the caller to the truth with these verses, He made clear their behavior in their words in their deception as evidence of their corruption by saying: ﴿And when they meet﴾, and meeting is gathering with inclination. ﴿Those who believe﴾ means truly, outwardly and inwardly. However, their faith, as al-Harali said, is an action of theirs that has not reached the point of becoming a characteristic for them. As for the believers whose faith has become a characteristic for them, they hardly meet them with its requirements, because they do not find with them an entry in speech or companionship. This is because meeting must involve inclination from both parties. End of quote.

﴿They said﴾ deceitfully ﴿We have believed﴾ expressing with the past verbal sentence which is sufficient in conveying what it was intended for with the slightest occurrence.

(p-115) ﴿And when they are alone﴾ ending ﴿to their devils﴾ meaning those who are their leaders without any believer being with them. And the devil is one who is far removed from the place of good, as al-Harali said.

﴿They said, Indeed, we are with you﴾ expressing with the nominal form indicating stability, confirming it as an indication of their eagerness for this report due to their increased love for what it has conveyed and to repel what may be assumed of their changing by those who see their hypocrisy towards the believers. Then they resumed in the place of the response to the one who said: Why do you soften your words to the believers? ﴿Indeed, we are merely mockers﴾ meaning seekers of mockery, steadfast upon it in what we show of faith. And mockery is the display of seriousness while concealing frivolity in it, as al-Harali said.
