Commentary

He expressed this by saying: ﴾That is a community that has passed away﴿ meaning: before you, by ages that you did not witness. And he pointed out that they acted contrary to their deeds by saying: ﴾For it is theirs﴿ meaning: the community ﴾what it earned﴿ meaning: from the religion of Islam, specific to it, there is no partnership for you in it ﴾And for you is what you have earned﴿ meaning: of what you are upon of desires, specific to you, they will not be questioned about your deeds ﴾nor will you be questioned﴿ meaning: you ﴾about what they used to do﴿.
