Commentary
And when he asked for acceptance, he asked for an increase in it by saying: "Our Lord" as has passed from the styles of the supplication of the close ones by dropping the tool of distance. "And make us" meaning: me and this son of mine who has helped me, "Muslims to You and of our descendants." Al-Harali said: When he realized the hoped-for faith in his descendants in his saying: "Whoever among them believes" [Al-Baqarah: 126], he sought the completion by the Islam of the face and the request for him and his son and for whoever has been granted faith from his descendants and the descendants of his son. For Islam, when it is the apparent religion, is quick to be embraced due to the pressures of worldly matters. And Islam is completed by the safety of the creation from the hand of the servant and his tongue and the submission of everything in his possession to his Lord from what disputes with the existence of the self and the pressures of the world. Therefore, it is a request for the people of purity at the end of life so that the departure from the world is through a submission to the truth and peace for the creation, as Yusuf, blessings and peace be upon him, said: "Cause me to die as a Muslim" [Yusuf: 101]. And he requested by saying: "A Muslim nation for You" that they be such that some of them lead others.
And when the Muslim is compelled to knowledge, he said: "And show us our rites." In this is a manifestation of the honor of the act of Hajj, as it is received from Allah without an intermediary, for it is a sign on the Day of Judgment when there is no intermediary there between the Lord and the servants.
And the rite is a noun derived from the act of worship, which is what is done as an act of devotion and piety. Its letters share the letter of stillness, as Al-Harali said. And when man is a place of incapacity, he is in greatest need of success, he said: "And turn towards us" indicating the request for repentance following the good deed, as is the request of those who know Allah, who are connected to good deeds, returning with them to the One to whom belongs creation and command. Then he justified his hope in that by stating that His habit, glorified and exalted is He, is to be generous and gracious, and he said: "Indeed, You are the Most Relenting" meaning: the One who returns His servants to the abode of safety from His presence after He has allowed their enemy to dominate them with his misguidance so that they may recognize His favor upon them and His great power. Then he followed it with a description that is like a justification for it, saying: "The Most Merciful."
