Commentary
He said: 'So it is the matter'; then he explained it by saying: 'Your Lord said' [meaning] 'the One who has accustomed you to kindness.' [And he mentioned the saying and said]: 'He is' [meaning] 'a creation that will come to life from both of you in this state.' 'It is easy for Me' [meaning] 'specifically.' 'There is no difference to Me between it and others.' 'And I have created you' [meaning] 'I have decreed you and shaped you [and brought you into existence].'
And when the intention was to liken his state to the coming of a child from a weak cause by decreeing it from the drop [of semen] due to its weak causation, [because] sometimes it bears fruit and sometimes it does not, which is the most common, he brought in the preposition to indicate that, saying: 'Before' [meaning] 'before this time.' 'And you have not' [meaning] 'while the case is that you have not.' And when peace be upon him was greatly eager for what would be revealed to him from the meaning in this glad tidings, he made it brief even by omitting the noon [to establish that he has nothing from himself except absolute non-existence, and to deny that he has any existence from himself, even at the lowest degrees of being, to necessitate his state in this amazement, to remind him of that, he said]: 'To be anything' [meaning] '[that is regarded].' Then I brought you forth upon what you are when I willed, so it was established by this that he is from his wife, this barren one, in the state of both of them being old.
