And when he invalidated the absolute intercessors, and the son was the closest intercessor, they had claimed for him a son. He invalidated their claim regarding him so that every specific and general intercessor would be negated. Thus, every honor they sought through the intercession of their deities and others would be negated. He said, referring to their saying: "And they have taken besides Allah deities" [Maryam: 81], necessitating from them: "And they said," meaning the disbelievers: "The Most Merciful has taken a son," meaning the one who has no benefactor other than Him. For everyone is in need of Him, and He is free of need from everyone. "A son," the Jews said: 'Uzayr, the Christians: the Messiah, and the polytheists: the angels, along with the establishment of the evidence on its impossibility upon Him, glorified and exalted is He.
