Commentary
And when it was far-fetched for them that they could return from their disbelief in Him, this indicated that it would occur due to what is observed from them of actions that contradict the gravity of forbearance that arises from the dignity of knowledge. So He said: "Did you not see that We, with the greatness that We possess, have sent the devils, whom We created from fire, [a sending that is elevated] by distancing and burning upon the disbelievers," meaning those deeply entrenched in disbelief. "They urge them on with a strong urging," meaning they move them with a severe movement and disturb them in the sins and misdeeds in which they have no doubt about their ugliness and great disgrace, while they are the most critical of those who commit them and condemn those who perpetrate them with a great disturbance, such that they are in their turmoil like boiling water in a pot, and like the flying sparks that are the most contrary to the nature of clay and most compatible with the nature of fire. So when this claim was established, it led to the prohibition of what they were characterized by of the lightness of folly and the recklessness of ignorance.
