Commentary
Then We will surely seize them with a severe seizing from every sect, meaning from every group that is connected to one doctrine. And when the estimation was: We will surely seize their wealthy ones, and they are those whom if you look at each one of them specifically, you would judge that he is the wealthiest of people, he knew that they are in need of being questioned about their situation due to the complexity of their matter. So he said: "Which of them is more severe against the Most Merciful?" The one who overwhelmed them with kindness, "arrogantly," meaning with excessive pride, a seizing by which the people of the standing know that he is less than the least, and a more feeble matter than that of the slain. And that for Him, glorified and exalted is He, along with the attribute of mercy that His kindness and goodness have overwhelmed them, there are other attributes of majesty, grandeur, might, and vengeance.
