Commentary
﴿He will inherit me﴾ in all that I possess of knowledge, prophethood, and deeds. ﴿And he will inherit﴾ an increase upon that ﴿from the family of Ya'qub﴾ our grandfather, of what You have specifically granted them of favors, and preferred them with blessings, of good morals and noble qualities. And the name of Ya'qub is specifically mentioned as an example for himself when he said to Yusuf, blessings and peace be upon him, ﴿And He will complete His favor upon you and upon the family of Ya'qub﴾ [Yusuf: 6]. This is because Israel became a sign for all the tribes, and events had overwhelmed them. The judge Al-Ajdud questioned in
And when he concluded his supplication with the words: 'And make him, my Lord,' [meaning: O You who has been gracious to me -] 'pleased,' meaning: with Your constant pleasure until he meets You upon that, it was said in response to one who seemed to ask: What did his Lord, who had a good opinion of him, say to him?
