Commentary
'And We called him' means by that which We have of greatness 'from the side of the Mount' meaning the side 'of the right.' So We informed him there, when he was heading towards Egypt, that he is Our Messenger. Then We promised him to return to him after the drowning of the people of Pharaoh. So there were for the Children of Israel with him wonders in His mercy by sending down the Book, and the delight in the speech, from the midst of the clouds. And in their death when they requested the vision, then their revival, and other than that which is beyond description, as is mentioned in the Torah. Much of it has preceded in this Book. 'And We brought him close' by that which We have of greatness, a closeness of honor while he was 'in private conversation.' We inform him of Our matter without an intermediary [of private conversation, which is secrecy and speech between two, like secrecy, and consultation as in Yusuf, and it will come in Al-Mujadila].
