Commentary
Then he turned to his promise of goodness, his promise regarding what he asked for in migration, and he said: "And I will distance myself from you" [meaning] all of you by leaving your lands; and he indicated that one of the conditions of the worshipped is that he must be worthy of being called upon in times of distress by saying: "And what you call upon" meaning you worship "besides Allah" who has all perfection. So whoever turns to Him alone has succeeded, and whoever turns to others has failed. He did not specify the distancing by a time, but indicated that as long as they are upon this religion, he is distancing himself from them. "And I call upon" meaning I worship "my Lord" alone for His deserving that from me due to His uniqueness in doing good to me. Then he prayed for himself with what he alerted them to regarding the futility of their efforts, and he said [not] - firmly affirming the acceptance of his supplication and the acceptance of his worship in reverence for his Lord and humility for himself: "Perhaps I will not be" meaning a permanent state as if he was cautious with that about what is inevitable for the saints in this world from trials. "By the supplication of my Lord" who is unique in doing good to me, "unfortunate" as you were unfortunate by worshipping what you worshipped, because it does not answer your supplication, nor does it benefit you, nor does it harm you.
