Commentary
So when he reached this limit of the statement, it was as if it was said: What was his response? It was said: He said, confronting that great etiquette and profound wisdom that arises from the delicacy of knowledge with the utmost rudeness caused by the density of ignorance, denying him in all that he said by denying what prompted him to belittle his deities: "Are you inclined?" He presented the news for the intensity of his concern and his astonishment at that inclination and his denial of it, indicating that no one would do it. Then he explicitly confronted him with harshness and said: "You" and said: "about my deities" by attributing them only to himself, indicating his exaggeration in glorifying them; and to desire something means to intentionally leave it. Then he called him by his name, not with the term of sonship that reminds of compassion and affection, further indicating the severance and its consequences, and said: "O Ibrahim." Then he began anew, swearing: "If you do not stop from what you are upon, I will surely stone you," meaning I will surely kill you, for that is the recompense for opposing the religion. So beware of me and do not expose yourself to that from me and stop: "And leave me" meaning stay away from me: "for a long time," meaning a long time due to what has come from you of this speech. In this, there is consolation for the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him and his family, and a comfort regarding what he faced of harm and what he endured from his people of hardship, and from his uncle Abu Lahab of the hardships and calamities - with the greatest of his forefathers and those closest to him resembling him.
