Commentary
And when he clarified that there is no benefit in what he worships, and alerted him to the description that necessitates the obligation of following him, he made clear to him what is in the worship of his deity from harm. He said: "O my father, do not worship the devil." For indeed, the idols have no call at all. And Allah, glorified and exalted is He, has prohibited the worship of others absolutely through the tongue of every ally of His. Thus, it became necessary that the one commanding this is the devil, and he is the one truly worshipped by their worship. Then he justified this prohibition by saying: "Indeed, the devil is far from all good," [the one consumed by the curse]. And he mentioned the description that necessitates the filling for the disobedient, saying: "He was for the Most Merciful," the One who bestows all blessings and is capable of taking them away. And he did not say: "for the Compeller" - so that it would not be assumed that he did not fill for his disobedient due to His might except for the inability to do so. "Disobedient" by force from the moment he was created, and by action from the moment he commanded him to prostrate to your father Adam, but he refused. So he is an enemy to Allah, and the one who obeys the disobedient for something is disobedient to that thing, for indeed, the friend of the enemy is an enemy.
