Commentary
And when this [which -] has preceded is a warning of that scene, the estimation is: Warn your people of that scene and what they hear in it and see in it. ﴿And warn them of the Day of Regret﴾ itself in that great scene, the Day when the foot slips, and regret will not benefit the wrongdoer for his wrongdoing, nor the doer of good for not increasing in good.
[And when the Day is an event, not a time, He replaced it, or justified the warning by saying -]: ﴿When﴾ meaning at the time, or because it, [and He expressed the future in the past, indicating that it is a matter of necessity that must happen, so He said -]: ﴿The matter has been decreed﴾ meaning His matter and He has completed it with the easiest affair and the lightest matter, and we have determined that it must be ﴿and they﴾ are in a state of ﴿having warned them﴾ [Qamar: 36] meaning while they are [now -] ﴿in heedlessness﴾ of what we decreed [to be at that time] of His matter, having no awareness of anything from it. Rather, they think that time is just life and death without an end ﴿and they do not believe﴾ that it must be; [and in -] the authentic narration indicates that the Day of Regret is when death is slaughtered. Indeed, Muslim narrated from Abu Sa'id, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, said: "Death will be brought on the Day of Resurrection like a white ram, and it will be said: O people of Paradise! Do you recognize this? They will stretch their necks and look and say: Yes! This is death. And it will be said: O people of Hell! Do you recognize this? They will stretch their necks and look and say: Yes! This is death. Then it will be commanded that it be slaughtered. Then it will be said: O people of Paradise! Eternity, so there is no death, and O people of Hell! Eternity, so there is no death. Then the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, recited, and in one narration: So that is His saying ﴿And warn them of the Day of Regret when the matter has been decreed﴾ the verse.
As for heedlessness, it is in this world. Ibn Hibban narrated in his authentic book from the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, ﴿When the matter has been decreed and they are in heedlessness﴾ he said: in this world. Al-Mundhiri said: It is in Muslim with its meaning in the last part of the hadith.
And when inheritance is the possession of something after the death of its owners, and He, glorified and exalted is He, has decreed the death of all creatures, and that He alone remains, He expressed that with inheritance, confirming the content of the previous speech, so He said, affirming and refuting their saying: Indeed, time does not continue like this, life for some and death for others.
