﴿So it took﴾ meaning it took with intention and effort. This indicates the proximity of the place by bringing in the preposition, so it said: ﴿from among them﴾ meaning the nearest place in their location for its being alone for bathing or otherwise. ﴿A veil﴾ that covers her. ﴿So We sent﴾ for a matter that indicates Our greatness. ﴿To her Our Spirit﴾ Gabriel, blessings be upon him, to inform her of what Allah intends for her of honor with the birth of Jesus, blessings be upon him, without a father, so that the matter would not become ambiguous to her, and her thoughts would not diverge, causing her to kill herself out of grief. ﴿So he appeared to her﴾ meaning he took on a form while being spiritual in the shape of a corporeal human ﴿a well-formed man﴾ in his creation, handsome in appearance, so that her aversion and fear of him would not intensify. Then he presented the story as a new beginning, indicating her resolve and her sincere devotion to Allah, her turning to Him, and her witnessing Him in such a way that she does not lean towards anyone else.
