Commentary

Then it was said in response to one who seemed to ask: What did he say after knowing that? He said: 'My Lord,' meaning, 'O You who are gracious to me by bringing me near!' 'Make for me' regarding that 'a sign,' meaning a marker that indicates to me its occurrence. Allah said: 'Your sign regarding the occurrence of that is that you will not be able to speak to the people.'

And when the Surah began with mercy, and the night was the time of its descent, 'Our Lord descends every night to the lowest heaven and says' - the hadith states: 'Three nights' [meaning in its days - as indicated by the expression of days in Al-Imran -] while you are 'whole' without being mute, sick, or hindered from speaking at all. Rather, you converse with your Lord in it by glorifying Him, praising Him, reciting His Book, and all that you desire from such things. Likewise, those other than the people, from the angels and others among the righteous servants of Allah, and the verse indicating this is silence from any mention of Allah, indicating his sincerity and complete devotion to Allah alone without others.
