Commentary
And when his matter was astonishing in itself and in its observation, especially at close range, He, the Most High, said: ﴿Thus﴾ meaning his matter is as we have mentioned to you in a manner of brevity. ﴿And We have encompassed﴾ with what we have of greatness, ﴿with what is with Him﴾ meaning all of it from the matters that are the most astonishing of the astonishing. 'News' meaning from the perspective of the hidden aspects of His matters, let alone their outward appearances. So, our informing about that and about the matter of the People of the Cave should not be surprising. Nor should it be thought that the details of the matter of the soul are hidden from us, for we are aware of the secrets of matters and their outward appearances, their witnesses and their absences. And how could it not be so when we have found them? However, we do not mention from that except what wisdom calls for. If we had wished, we would have elaborated on this story and the story of the People of the Cave and detailed the matter of the soul in a way that the intelligent would be unable to preserve.
