Commentary
And when his story was one of the clearest evidence of the greatness of Allah, He made it clear in that manifestation and said: ﴿Indeed﴾, affirming that the addressees are in a state of obstinacy and denial. ﴿We established﴾, meaning by what we have of greatness. It is said: by the kingdom alone, and it is said along with prophethood. Because what is attributed to Allah, glorified and exalted is He, in the manner of favor and kindness is worthy of being taken to the ultimate end, especially when He expresses it with a manifestation of greatness. ﴿For Him in the earth﴾ is a position by which He reaches all its paths, and through which He prevails over all its kings. ﴿And We gave him﴾ by our greatness ﴿from everything﴾ he needs in that ﴿as a means﴾. Abu Hayyan said: The origin of 'means' is the rope, then it was expanded until it became applied to what is used to reach the intended goal. So he intended to reach the west, and perhaps he began with it because the door of repentance is in it.
