Then, glorified and exalted is He, presented the story in a manner of resumption, as if responding to a question from a questioner about every word that guides to what preceded it. This is because it is known that when a seeker meets a person, he speaks to him. However, the exact nature of that speech is not known. So he said to him, as if he were asking about that: ﴿Moses said to him﴾, seeking from him in a manner of politeness and gentleness by expressing that in the form of permission: ﴿May I follow you﴾, meaning following in a profound way wherever you go. And following is coming to do like the action of another merely because he is coming with it. He clarified that he does not seek from him anything other than knowledge by saying: ﴿On the condition that you teach me﴾. He further increased in gentleness by indicating that he does not seek everything that he has, so that time would be prolonged for him, but rather some of it from which he seeks guidance to the rest. So he said: ﴿Of what you have been taught﴾. For every person whose grasp of knowledge is greater, his knowledge of what is in it of joy and happiness is greater. Thus, his seeking for it is more intense, and his veneration for the possessors of knowledge is more complete.
