Commentary

So when they reached the meeting place between the two seas, there was no connection at all for their becoming one thing. They forgot their fish, so Musa, blessings and peace be upon him, did not know anything of its state and forgot to ask about it. And Yusha, blessings and peace be upon him, knew some of its state but forgot to mention that to him. So it took the fish as a miracle within a miracle. Its path was a wide, clear way in the sea, a breach in the water that was not joined, from the breach which is the den of the wild animal, and the pit under the ground, and the canal from which the water enters the wall. It has been reported in his authentic hadith that Allah, the Exalted, brought it to life and held it from the place of its flow in the water, so it became a path that does not join. And Yusha, blessings and peace be upon him, looked at that, and it seemed that the meeting place was extended, so Musa, blessings and peace be upon him, thought that what was required was ahead of him or thought that the intended meeting was another meeting, so he proceeded.
