Commentary
And when he, blessings and peace be upon him and his family, was very keen on their faith, out of compassion for them and zeal for the divine status that filled his heart with reverence for it, Allah, glorified and exalted is He, addressed him with His saying: "So perhaps you will kill yourself". This means that he was distressed by their words, which were very contrary to what he wanted for them, causing them to turn away from you. You are worried that you and those who see you might be in such a state that you would be killing "yourself" out of extreme sorrow and anguish. He indicated their great aversion and their quick departure from him and their significant distance from him with His saying: "in their tracks". This means when they turned away from your call, they were like those who dismantled their tents and took away their flags: "If they do not believe".
And when he depicted their distance, he depicted the closeness of what he called them to and made it easy to attain with His saying: "with this discourse". This means the valuable and renewed revelation according to the gradual process: "out of sorrow" from you over that. And sorrow is the greatest form of sadness and anger.
