And when He, glorified and exalted is He, established what they have with their partners, He mentioned their state in the continuation of their ignorance. So He, the Most High, said: "And the criminals saw" meaning those deeply entrenched in crime, "the Fire" meaning they saw it. However, He made it evident for the indication of linking the ruling to the description. "So they thought" a thought "that they would fall into it, while they had not" meaning, while the case is that they had not "found any way to escape from it" meaning a place to turn to. The location is the location of realization. However, their thought was in accordance with their habit in ignorance, as they said: "Allah has taken a son" [Al-Kahf: 4] without knowledge, and "I do not think that this will ever perish" [Al-Kahf: 35] and "I do not think the Hour will arise" [Al-Kahf: 36] "We do not think except a thought, and we are not certain" [Al-Jathiya: 32] along with the existence of proofs that there is no doubt in them.
