Commentary
And when the partner does not have a share in performing a great matter in what is shared without his partner's knowledge of it, he said, justifying the blame for this injustice by what indicates their insignificance regarding this rank. He was fair in his manner of speaking by abstracting from the appearance of greatness so that a stubborn person from the people of polytheism would not become obstinate, just as he was fair in "below me" [al-Kahf: 50]. Therefore: "I did not make them witness" meaning Iblis and his offspring, "the creation of the heavens and the earth" is a type of witnessing, "nor the creation of themselves" indicating that they are created and that it is not correct in the mind of any rational person for a created being to be a partner to its Creator at all. "And I was not" meaning from eternity and forever, taking them, this is the original. However, he highlighted guidance to the fact that the misleader should not be relied upon, for with his lack of benefit, he causes harm. So Allah, the Most High, said: "taking the misleaders as supporters" indicating that there is no regret over the loss of anyone's Islam. For indeed, whoever Allah knows there is good in him will make him hear, and whoever He does not make hear is a misleader unworthy of supporting the religion.
