Commentary
And when He, glorified and exalted is He, mentioned their gathering, and it was known that it is for the presentation, He mentioned the manner of that presentation. He said, establishing the action for the object in the manner of the speech of the able ones. This is because the fearful presentation is not in being from a specific one: ﴿And they were presented before your Lord﴾, meaning the One who is good to you by raising your allies and lowering your enemies. ﴿In rows﴾ for the vastness of the earth and the racing to His abode, for the presentation of the most humiliating and smallest thing, and the most obedient and insignificant. It is said to them, as a reminder of the position of greatness: ﴿Indeed, you have come to us﴾ alive, sound, barefoot, naked, and uncircumcised ﴿As We created you the first time﴾ with that greatness ﴿the first time﴾, isolated from everything you used to gather and boast about, submissive and yielding. Then you will say: ﴿This is what the Most Merciful promised, and the messengers spoke the truth﴾ [Yasin: 52]. Then it will be said to you: ﴿But you claimed﴾, meaning you asserted in ignorance of Our greatness that 'we will not make for you' regarding what we have of greatness ﴿a promised time﴾, meaning a place and time in which we gather you for this gathering, and we fulfill what we promised you through the tongues of the messengers.
