Commentary
And when they established proof for their belief, and they knew the foolishness of those who opposed them, and they were a people who had no strength to resist them, due to their multitude and their fewness, their migration resulted from that so that their religion might be safe. So Allah, the Most High, explained what remained of their affair, adding to what you estimate: And they said, or whoever Allah wills from them, when they were free from their people in secret: Do not return to your people ever as long as they are upon what they are upon. This is if the intended meaning is their standing before Daqyanus, and if the intended meaning of standing is the rising with sincere determination, this estimation is not needed: And when you separated from them, meaning your people, and what you separated from was that they worship none but Allah, meaning the One who has the attributes of perfection. This is evidence that they were associating partners with Him. It is permissible that they named submission as a burden to His will and submission, according to their claim, to His decrees as worship. So take refuge, meaning because of this separation. This is evidence of the worker in 'when' to the cave, meaning the cave that is in the mountain. He will spread, meaning He will revive and raise for you your Lord, who has always been good to you from His mercy, what is enough for you of the important matters of your affair, and He will prepare for you from your affair that which is of concern to you, a means of support by which you will be supported. It is with a broken 'm' and a opened 'f' in the recitation of the congregation, and with an opened 'm' and a broken 'f' for Nafi and Ibn Amir. And this firmness is from the effects of the binding upon their hearts with what they knew of His ability over all things, and His protection of whoever seeks refuge with Him, turns to Him, worships Him, and relies upon Him. So they did that, and Allah did what they hoped for in it. He made for them the best means of support by causing them to sleep, then He raised them after the passage of centuries and the passing of ages, and He guided by them that generation in which He established them.
