Then We raised them up, meaning We awakened them from that sleep. So that We may know, with a witnessed knowledge for others, just as We used to know the unseen, what was unknown to the one who asks and says: Which of the two parties are they, or who stumbled upon them from their people? They counted, meaning they calculated and recorded, for the sake of [knowledge of] how long they remained. They said: We remained a day or part of a day. Then they disavowed [knowledge of] that and referred it to its knowledgeable source and the people of the town. They counted that by the currency that was found with them or other than that, from the signs that indicated it to them. However, even if their saying aligns with the reality of the matter or is close to it, it is based on assumption and approximation, not certainty and specification, by His saying, the Exalted: Say: Allah knows best what they remained. So if it is known that each of the two parties is ignorant of their matter, then it is known that Allah is the one who possesses knowledge of that. It is known that He encompasses the attributes of perfection, and that He did not take a son, nor does He have a partner in the kingdom, and that He is greater than all that occurs in the imagination.
