Commentary
And when they denied that they were upon that, due to their adherence to many of the virtues of good deeds, which are far from misguidance, He clarified to them the reason for the nullification of their efforts by saying: ﴿Those﴾ [meaning -] the distant and detestable ﴿who disbelieved﴾, that is, they concealed and covered up what should be made apparent and known, being disdainful ﴿of the signs of their Lord﴾ from His words and actions. And He clarified the reason for this disbelief by saying: ﴿and meeting Him﴾, meaning they became unafraid, so nothing would deter them from their desires. ﴿So their deeds became void﴾, meaning they fell and were nullified and corrupted due to their denial of the signs. ﴿Their deeds﴾ were not built upon the foundation of faith. ﴿So﴾, meaning it resulted in their downfall that we do not ﴿establish for them﴾, due to our greatness and majesty, preventing anyone from opposing us or interceding for them without our permission on ﴿the Day of Resurrection, a weight﴾, meaning we do not consider them because they were ignorant of our matter, which nothing is more apparent than it, and they felt secure from our plot, and nothing is more dangerous than it.
