Then he described them with what necessitated their imprisonment in it and their frowning at it, saying: "Those who were" as if it were a nature for them. "Their eyes" are the outward and inward ones. "In a cover from My remembrance" by not looking at what We have placed on the earth of adornment as a sign of the Hour by its annihilation following its revival and restoration after its manifestation. "And they were" with what We created them upon, "unable" meaning unable in a great ability that would make them happy, due to the weakness of their minds and their drowning in their trivialities. "Hearing" My verses which make the deaf hear and make the blind see, and it is more eloquent in reproaching them for their ignorance and rebuking them for their dullness than merely negating sight and hearing, because that does not negate ability.
