Commentary
And when he established the conclusive proof that the Qur'an revealed to him is from Allah; and denied their doubt in denying that the Messenger is a human; by stating that he did not deviate from the custom of those before him who acknowledged that they were prophets; and that one kind does not understand another kind; for humans do not understand the angel except through a miracle; and that is only for the messengers; and for whom Allah wills from their followers; there remained only pure stubbornness; which has no return except to the sword when capable; and to Allah when it is lost; and there was in the honored Mecca one who was not able to wield the sword; Allah (glorified and exalted is He) commanded him to return to the sword; so He said (glorified and exalted is He): 'Say, sufficient is Allah'; meaning: the One who encompasses everything in power and knowledge; 'as a witness'; meaning: a decisive factor that will be 'between me and you'; treating each of us according to what he deserves; then He justified His sufficiency for that by saying (glorified and exalted is He): 'Indeed, He was with His servants'; before He created them; 'All-Aware'; of what their affairs will lead to after creating them; 'All-Seeing'; of what will happen from them after their existence.
