Commentary
﴿Or the heaven should fall upon us﴾; meaning: itself; ﴿as you claimed﴾; in what you threaten us with; ﴿upon us pieces﴾; meaning: fragments; the plural of 'kisfah'; and it is the piece; and it may be intended by that the stone or hail coming from above; and other than that which you have been threatened with in the manner of His saying: 'that He may send upon you a punishment from above you'; and naming that 'heaven' is like naming rain - and even plants - 'heaven':
If the heaven descends upon the land of a people ∗∗∗ we would tend to it even if they were angry.
﴿Or you should come﴾; with you; ﴿with Allah﴾; meaning: the Greatest King; ﴿and the angels in rows﴾; meaning: coming visibly; and facing; it is looked at; nothing of it is hidden from any of us; and its origin is the gathering that necessitates facing with approach; from the tribes of the gathering head;
