Commentary
And when it was established that the Book of Musa - blessings and peace be upon him - which was revealed to him between Egypt and Bayt al-Maqdis during that long period; it is guidance for the Children of Israel; true in promise and warning regarding what was decreed for them concerning their affairs and the affairs of Bayt al-Maqdis; from the elevation of the state of those who obeyed him; and their exaltation; and the punishment of those who opposed them; and from the reversal of the conditions of the sinners repeatedly by the domination of enemies over them through killing; and captivity; and plundering; and the destruction of the lands; as a warning that obedience to Allah brings every good and honor; and disobedience to Him brings every calamity; as time has revealed regarding what is known from the histories of the Jews and others; it became clear that the Qur'an increases upon it in every good meaning; and noble matter; in what it brought of true promises; and firm rulings; and superior meanings in the sweet and clear arrangements; with the miracle of being unable to produce a verse like it for all of mankind and jinn; in proportion to what the journey of Muhammad - blessings and peace be upon him - to Bayt al-Maqdis, which he saw in it from His signs, exceeded the journey of Musa - blessings and peace be upon him - who was given the Book therein; he said - in response to one who seemed to say: It is known that the Book of Musa - blessings and peace be upon him - which was revealed during his journey to the destination of the Al-Aqsa Mosque is valid in guidance and true promises; so what is the state of the Book of Muhammad - blessings and peace be upon him and his family - which was revealed to him from it regarding his journey to it in that? -: 'Indeed, this Qur'an'; meaning: the one that encompasses all truth; and distinguishes between every ambiguous matter; 'guides'.
And when the people divided into those guided by Him and those astray, He - glorified and exalted is He - followed that with His clarification. The expression of their condition is with good tidings in His saying (the Most High): ﴿And gives good tidings to the believers﴾; meaning: those firmly established in this description. For this reason, He specified them, clarifying for them with His saying (the Most High): ﴿Those﴾; who confirm their faith by that they ﴿do﴾; meaning: in the manner of renewal, and continuity, and building upon knowledge; ﴿righteous deeds﴾; of piety and goodness; ﴿that for them﴾; meaning: a reward for them; in their outward and inward; ﴿a great reward﴾; indicating the righteousness of this nation and their steadfastness upon their religion; and that their affair will remain apparent, just as the warning of the Book of Moses - blessings and peace be upon him - to his people was an indication of their corruption and their alteration of their religion.
