Commentary

Then he turned to this known measure of it; what is more general than it and clearer in the trial; and the transgression; so He said (the Most High): ﴿And when We bestow﴾; meaning: with what We have of greatness; ﴿upon man﴾; meaning: this type; these people; and others; with whatever blessing it may be; from the sending down of the Qur'an and others; ﴿he turns away﴾; meaning: from the mention of the Bestower; like the turning away of these people when this blessing comes, which there is no blessing like it; ﴿and distances himself﴾; meaning: he becomes distant (p-499) out of arrogance; ﴿beside it﴾; in pride; and blind to the truths; ﴿and when evil touches him﴾; meaning: this type; even if it is little; ﴿he is despairing﴾; meaning: extremely despairing; panicking; and having little trust in what he has of Allah's mercy; except for whom Allah protects; and honors him by being associated with Him; for the devil has no authority over him.
