Commentary
And when he mentioned that He is the Trustee; the one who has no sufficient one other than Him in preserving it; due to His encompassing knowledge; and the completeness of His ability; he followed it with some of His actions that indicate that; so He said (exalted is He) - returning to the signs of monotheism; which is the greatest intended purpose regarding the state of the sea in which they are saved; in the style of address; appealing to them to repent -: ﴿Your Lord﴾; meaning: the Benefactor to you; is ﴿the One who drives﴾; meaning: leads; and pushes; and executes; ﴿for you﴾; meaning: for your benefit; ﴿the ship﴾; which He carried you in with your father Noah - peace be upon him -; ﴿in the sea to seek﴾; meaning: to seek a great request by that of the types of benefits that are difficult; or hard to reach on land; ﴿from His bounty﴾; then He justified His action (p-472) by saying (exalted is He): ﴿Indeed, He﴾; meaning: He did that for you; because He ﴿was﴾; meaning: eternally; and always; ﴿merciful﴾; meaning: generous with guidance to do what pleases Him; in trade; and otherwise; not for any reason other than that; or that this may be an address to all of mankind; so the meaning would be: He has favored you among the animals.
