And when He informed (glorified and exalted is He) of his arrogance; it was as if it were said: This is a great insolence; and a transgression against the Most High. Was there anything other than this? It was said: Yes; ﴿He said, 'Have you considered﴾; meaning: Inform me; ﴿this one whom You have honored over me﴾; with what have You honored him over me, despite his weakness and my strength? It was as if it were said: He has reached the utmost in disrespect; so what came after this? It was said: He said - swearing; to emphasize the improbability that anyone would dare such audacity against the Most High King -: ﴿If You delay me﴾; meaning: O Most High King; a prolonged delay; ﴿until the Day of Resurrection﴾; alive and established; ﴿I will surely overpower﴾; meaning: by temptation; ﴿his offspring﴾; meaning: I will surely dominate them; with the intensity of my cunning; just as the eater dominates what he has taken in his mouth; by Your granting me authority over them; ﴿except for a few﴾; and they are Your allies; whom You have protected from me;
