أَوۡ خَلۡقٗا مِّمَّا يَكۡبُرُ فِي صُدُورِكُمۡۚ فَسَيَقُولُونَ مَن يُعِيدُنَاۖ قُلِ ٱلَّذِي فَطَرَكُمۡ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٖۚ فَسَيُنۡغِضُونَ إِلَيۡكَ رُءُوسَهُمۡ وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هُوَۖ قُلۡ عَسَىٰٓ أَن يَكُونَ قَرِيبٗا ٥١ ﴿51
51or any creation you deem harder in your hearts.” Thereupon they will ask, “Who will bring us back?” Say, “The One who created you for the first time.” So, they will shake their heads before you and say, “When shall that be?” Say, “May be, it is near.”

Commentary

﴿Or a creation﴾; other than them; ﴿of that which is great﴾; meaning: it is of great magnitude; ﴿in your breasts﴾; regarding acceptance of life; even if it is death; until you know the state of resurrection, how will your state be in responding to what He wants? For indeed, the origin of all is dust; so the one who preferred your clay - from which you were created - over all other clay; by growth; then by life; then by speech; and preferred some of the speakers over others with countless gifts; is capable of transferring that virtue to the clay; which He transformed stage by stage; until He made it stone; or iron; ﴿Then they will say﴾; continuing in mockery: ﴿Who will return us﴾; if we are like that; ﴿Say: The One who created you﴾; meaning: who began your creation; ﴿the first time﴾; and you were nothing; He will return you with the power with which He began you; just as that power did not fail in the beginning; it will not fail in the return; ﴿Then they will nod﴾; meaning: affirming with a promise that there is no breaking of it; indicating ﴿to you with their heads﴾; meaning: they move them out of extreme astonishment; and mockery; as if they, in their extreme ignorance, are at the utmost of insight in the knowledge of what they say; and 'nughdu' and 'inghad' mean: movement with rising and falling; (p-440) ﴿And they say﴾; in mockery; ﴿When is it﴾; then He reached His saying (the Most High): ﴿Say﴾; a saying that is moderate; not being affected by their condition; nor tight in His saying: ﴿Perhaps it will be﴾; meaning: a being from which there is no escape; ﴿soon﴾; leaning towards the possibility of its occurrence; not being certain;
