Commentary
And when there was in this statement what is not hidden from man; and they did not return; it indicated that they have examples of this aversion to such statements; so He said (glorified and exalted is He): ﴿And We have certainly diversified﴾; meaning: We have made a great variety of ways of expression; from lessons; and wisdoms; and proverbs; and rulings; and arguments; and signs; in forms of promise; and warning; command; and prohibition; and the clear; and the ambiguous; and so on; ﴿in this Quran﴾; from these ways; what is beyond reproach; and we have varied it from one aspect to another; and from one example to another; and “diversification” linguistically means: turning something from one direction to another; then it became a metaphor for clarification; as stated by Abu Hayyan.
