Commentary
Then he followed that which indicates the honor of the Book of Musa; and the correctness of its attribution to Him (glorified and exalted is He); by what necessitates the completeness of knowledge; and the fullness of ability; by what time has revealed of the truth of his news; and the severity of his warning and admonition; as a reminder that whoever denies his Book, he will be destroyed; whoever he may be; even if his respite is long; so do not be deceived by His forbearance; for kings do not allow anything that undermines their rule; so He (glorified and exalted is He) said: ﴿And We decreed﴾; meaning: by Our greatness; with the revelation that is decisive; sending down; and concluding; ﴿to the Children of Israel﴾; meaning: Our servant Yaqub - peace be upon him - who was the most obedient of the people of his time to Us; ﴿in the Book﴾; which We conveyed to them; by the tongue of Musa - peace be upon him -; ﴿You will surely cause corruption﴾; He emphasized by the indication of the oath with the 'lam'; because corruption is unlikely with the guiding Book; ﴿in the land﴾; meaning: the sacred land; which is as if for its honor it is the land; by what angers Allah; ﴿twice and you will surely be arrogant﴾; meaning: by what you have become of arrogance; for forgetting the Benefactor; ﴿a great arrogance﴾; by oppression; and rebellion; and you will not be punished except according to what our wisdom necessitates; at the time we desire; after a long respite; and 'the decree' is the judgment of the matter with precision;
