Commentary
And when the estimation is by measure or weight; it is among the hidden trusts; like the guardianship over the orphan; and the trust in it is as is customary; He followed His saying: ﴿And give full measure﴾; meaning: yourself; for it is a matter that is tangible; there is no confusion or ambiguity in it; and since it is valid for the one who gives; and for the one who takes; He said: ﴿When you measure﴾; meaning: for others; for if you measure for yourselves; then there is no sin upon you if you fall short of your right; and do not give full measure; ﴿And weigh﴾; meaning: a weight that is accompanied ﴿by the just balance﴾; meaning: the scale of justice; which is the most upright of scales; and He emphasized its meaning; saying (the Exalted): ﴿the straight﴾ without any injustice; as has been mentioned in the measure; equally; ﴿That﴾ (p-413) meaning: the matter of high rank; which We have commanded you with; ﴿is better﴾; for you in this world; and the Hereafter; even if it seems to you that something else is better; ﴿and better in outcome﴾; meaning: in consequence in both abodes; and it is a "tafa'il" from the first; which is the return; and the comparative form here is for the use of the justness; to allow for the possibility that there is good in each of them; so this which we have mentioned is more good; and the wise one should not be satisfied with less for himself.
