Commentary
And when there is in killing children a share of stinginess; and in committing adultery a call of extravagance; He followed it with it; so He said (glorified and exalted is He): ﴿And do not approach﴾; meaning: the closest proximity; by doing anything from its prerequisites; even by entertaining the thought of it; ﴿adultery﴾; although the predominant reason for women committing it is need; and the desire for increase; and therein is the meaning of killing the child by wasting his lineage; and therein is a cause for bringing a soul into existence through falsehood; just as killing causes its annihilation through falsehood; and He expressed it with proximity to emphasize its seriousness; for what is in it of the corruptions leading to trials; by killing; and others; then He justified it by saying - affirming; emphasizing the warning against it; for what the soul has of a strong inclination towards it -: ﴿Indeed, it was﴾; meaning: a state that does not cease from it; ﴿an abomination﴾; meaning: an increase of ugliness; and He has forbidden you from abominations; in the verse of justice and kindness; ﴿And how evil﴾; is adultery; ﴿a path﴾; meaning: how evil it is as a way! The expression of it as a path indicates the abundance of its practitioners; indicating the vastness of its methodology.
