Commentary
And when the cause of stinginess is the fear of poverty; and the cause of generosity is the love of enriching the giver; he said - comforting his Messenger, blessings and peace be upon him, regarding what burdens him from the addition about the expansion upon those who ask him; that this is only for the upbringing of the servants in what rectifies them; not for any humiliation for the one who is restricted; nor for any honor for the one who is expanded upon -: "Indeed, your Lord"; meaning: the Benefactor to you; "expands provision for whom He wills"; the expansion for him; without others; "and restricts"; meaning: He also restricts; whether He closes His hand; or expands it; "And if Allah had expanded provision for His servants, they would have certainly transgressed in the earth" [Ash-Shura: 27]; but He (glorified and exalted is He) does not reach with the one expanded for him the ultimate of his desire; nor with the one restricted from him the utmost of his disliked; so follow His way in your spending on His servants with His Sunnah in moderation; "Indeed, He was"; meaning: His being is at the utmost capability; "with His servants All-Aware"; meaning: He is fully aware; "All-Seeing"; meaning: He is fully seeing regarding what occurs from all of the restriction; and the expansion for them; whether it is beneficial; or harmful.
