Commentary
And when He commanded generosity, which is necessary for nobility, He prohibited stinginess, which is necessary for blame, in a context that repels it and excess. So He said - representing, beginning with the example of miserliness -: "And do not make your hand tied to your neck," meaning: as if it is restrained by withholding, "so that you cannot extend it," and "do not extend it" in spending, "with all the extension," so that you waste, "and then you sit," meaning: you exist like one who is seated, by withholding; "blamed," meaning: deeply rooted in what you are blamed for because of it before Allah; because that is what He prohibited; and among the people; and by extending, "you will be cut off," severed by the loss of what you are strong with; and its withdrawal from you; and both of these states exceed the limit of moderation.
