Commentary

And when this matter was very delicate; He followed it with something even more delicate; and stranger in ability; and knowledge; regarding the details of the conditions of human beings; rather every accountable person; some of them from others; before He created them; He said (the Exalted): ﴿And every human﴾; meaning: whoever in his nature is inclined to movement and disturbance; ﴿We have obligated him﴾; meaning: by Our greatness; ﴿his bird﴾; meaning: his action which We have decreed upon him; of good and evil; and perhaps he expressed it because they would not proceed; nor refrain in the important matters of their actions; except by the bird; so they would say: The bird has occurred for so-and-so with such-and-such.

﴿Around his neck﴾; meaning: that which is the place of adornment with a necklace and the like; and the shame with the collar and the like; an obligation that he cannot detach himself from any of it; just as he cannot detach himself from the neck; and that is as We obligated the Children of Israel what We decreed to them in the Book; so it was as We said; and they know that it is of great evil; so they could not avoid it; and separate from it; so it cannot appear in eternity except what has been decreed in the primordial: "The pen has dried with what is to occur"; ﴿And We will bring forth﴾; meaning: by what We have of greatness; and the comprehensiveness of knowledge; and the completeness of ability; ﴿for him on the Day of Resurrection﴾; meaning: that which must be brought into existence; ﴿a book﴾; with all that he has done; ﴿he will encounter it﴾; while it is ﴿spread open﴾; written by Our guardians every day; then when they ascend, they will confront what is in it according to what We have recorded previously in the preserved tablet; so they will find it as it is; with no disagreement in it at all;
