Commentary
So he intended; that is: what resulted from this which is usually a cause of faith, except that Pharaoh intended to provoke them; that is: to belittle Musa and those who believed with him; and to expel them; so they would be like water when it flows; from their saying: "The wound has flowed"; it flowed; from the earth; by denial; and killing; to be able to enslave the remaining ones; just as these intended to provoke you from the earth; to expel you from it; to be able to establish what they are upon of disbelief; and stubbornness; then he began to warn them of his assaults; by what he did to those who were more than them; and stronger; so he said: "So We drowned him"; that is: what resulted from that was that We turned his plot against him; with what We have of greatness; so We did not allow him to achieve his intention; and We provoked him; so he could not resist; rather he was frightened without knowing what We intended with him; until We brought him into the sea; where We brought the Children of Israel; so We saved them; and drowned him; and those with him all together; just as Our tradition has been with those who opposed after they saw the miracles; and disbelieved in the blessing; and exceeded in tyranny; after the truth appeared; let these beware of something similar; especially if We expel Our Messenger from among their midst; for in this verse and its like is a glad tidings for him of Our granting him victory; and establishment; the way of his brothers from the messengers - blessings and peace be upon them -.
