Commentary
And when He commanded to fulfill [the covenant] and prohibited breaking it, He began to emphasize the obligation of fulfillment and the prohibition of breaking it, and to make it detestable, repelling it. So He said (glorified and exalted is He): "And do not be like the one who unraveled her thread"; and since breaking does not take a long time of distance, He said (glorified and exalted is He): "After having been strong"; a great strength that was attained by her; "into fragments"; meaning: into pieces; the plural of "nikt"; which is everything that was unraveled after being spun, whether it was a thread or yarn; it is a source derived from "naqadat"; because it means: "nakhat"; He said in the dictionary: "nikt" with a kasra: that the morals of the garments are unraveled to be spun again; so it would be like "I sat down sitting"; meaning: you would be by your action like this woman whom you have drawn as an example in the tearing; while claiming that the example of the lowest among you is set forth in intellect; then it reached by that what defines that they are more regretful than that woman; because her harm does not extend beyond her; but the harm caused by their actions is corruptive to the essence of the bond; so He said (glorified and exalted is He): "You take"; meaning: by the obligation of the original nature against what it calls you to fulfill; "your oaths as a means"; meaning: so its existence as oaths diminishes; to become a means to corruption; by deception; and delusion; "between you"; as the one who is sworn to feels secure; then the harm surprises him; and if he were cautious, he would not have been harmed; nor would he have dared to do so; and everything that is introduced into something with corruption is an entrance; "that"; meaning: you do that because "there will be a nation"; meaning: it is the deceiving one; or the deceived one; for the sake of its safety; "it is"; meaning: specifically; "more numerous"; meaning: greater; and higher; "than a nation"; in strength; or in number; so if it finds a depletion for its increase, it betrays.
